Commercial deployment
Sharpa plans to deploy 30,000 robots across restaurants, retail and hotels, according to an October 21 report by Chinese technology publication Jazzyear. The report draws on demonstrations and interviews around September's IROS robotics conference and China's industrial fair, which opened on October 12. It describes the company's first public account of a concrete commercial deployment plan.
The company already has a robot making ice cream for customers at a DQ store on Shanghai's Wujiang Road. Jazzyear reported that the robot uses the store's existing equipment and operating procedures. It currently makes a cup at roughly half a human worker's speed, illustrating the efficiency gap still facing commercial service robots.
Hardware and data
The report links the deployment effort to three products: the W02 dexterous hand, D01 humanoid robot and AE01 exoskeleton data glove. They address manipulation, whole-body execution and collection of real-world operating data, respectively.
Jazzyear said prices and delivery dates for all three remain unannounced. The deployment plan therefore sets out an ambition rather than evidence that 30,000 robots have been delivered.
