- The report describes an effort to obtain broader Chinese permission, without giving an approval date.
China permission
Tesla is actively seeking broader permission for its FSD driving software in China, QbitAI reported on October 22 in its account of the company’s earnings call. The report says Tesla continues to argue that its technology has an advantage, but gives no date for obtaining wider permission in the market.
QbitAI places that effort against a Chinese market in which more automakers are bringing advanced driving assistance, including urban navigation assistance, into lower vehicle price ranges. Its analysis identifies a commercial challenge for Tesla: persuading consumers to keep paying separately for FSD as comparable categories of assistance become more widely available.
Subscription business
The same report says Tesla’s global active paid FSD user base reached 1.74 million in the third quarter, up 67% from a year earlier and 260,000 from the preceding quarter. Those figures include both outright purchases and monthly subscriptions. More than half of paid users now subscribe monthly, according to the report. The global figures do not establish Chinese adoption or regulatory clearance.
